Biography:

Although I'm basically an old guy (born 1950), I've only been a ham since 2002. I'm an attorney, a former engineer, and proudly served two tours in Viet Nam.

Although my official QTH is Atlanta, Georgia, essentially all of my operating is done from LaGrange, Georgia, about 60 miles south of Atlanta. My current rigs there are an Icom IC-706MkII-G or IC-718, either one of which may be connected through an AT100-Pro autotuner to a G5RV antenna strung up in the trees at about 35 feet. All things considered, it works pretty well (at least until I can persuade the XYL that I really, really need to upgrade the setup). I enjoy operating SSB and digital modes, plus hanging out on the local repeaters.

Besides ham radio, my other pastime is motorcycling. I especially enjoy motorcycle touring in the beautiful mountains of North Georgia, Tennessee, and North Carolina. I'm also an avid long-distance rider, with my main claim to fame so far being completion of the "Iron Butt" "50cc Quest" coast-to-coast ride, where I rode from Santa Monica California to Jacksonville Florida in less than 48 hours.
