Biography for AA9UF:
I am 58 years old and been a ham since 1979. I enjoy mostly digital communications on HF. 85% of my operating in 2010 was digital. I especially like PSK31, RTTY, Hellschreiber and Throb. I enjoy ragchewing most of all. I just wish I could get a DX station to give me more than a signal report. What is the deep dark secret of getting a DX station to chat? Nobody seems to know!
I am not a big fan of CW because I am simply not very good at copy. I tend to lose my concentration too easily and my fist is kind of twitchy. The more I practice CW the worse I seem to get, so I let my MixW program copy and send it for me. I can type a lot faster than I can send CW. Sometimes, however, I do get a "weak moment" and try banging the key.
I also enjoy helping new hams with any problems they may have. I have Elmered 10 people so far in 32 years and will continue to do so until I go SK. This is the most rewarding aspect of ham radio...knowing that you have helped someone enhance their enjoyment of a fun and educational hobby that they will love for a lifetime.
Since I have become quite familiar with MixW software, several hams that I know have regularly asked for help in their pursuit of the digital modes. I have become known as the "MixW Professor".
Occasionally I write articles in World Radio On-Line and I also have a blog site, http://aa9uf-radio.blogspot.com. You can read my blogs and post comments if you wish. These are all ham radio related subjects.
